I was fortunate to have had a profound experience on the set of Landman last spring. I was brought on as an extra for the day, but luckily, they didn’t end up using me. The makeup tent with a monitor was set up next to ours, so I spent the day watching the director and crew build shot after shot, culminating in a sunset setup with Sam Elliott.
One of the four cameras was rigged to truck through the tips of tall grass, a move that ultimately appeared on screen for only a few seconds. Then the crew waited. About fifteen minutes later, the clouds broke and the sun shone through, turning everything gold.
It was magnificent.
